Areca Nuts are mostly grown in tropical climates around Asia. Indonesia is one of the largest growers of Areca Nuts in the world. The nuts are mostly used for chewing, animal feed or for medicinal and coloring purposes. In Indonesia, Areca Nuts are primarily grown in the Sumatra island and are harvested year round.

Elephant ginger often referred to as rhinoceros ginger, is one of the ginger varieties grown in Indonesia. Elephant ginger is actually white ginger, which is consumed every day, but it is significantly larger in size. The rhizome of elephant ginger is broad and fat. Comparatively speaking, the rhizome segments are more rounded.

The rhizomes are used in various Asian cuisines (for example in Thai and Lao tom yum and tom kha gai soups, and throughout Indonesian cuisine, for example, in soto or sambal goreng).
